Save the Rabbit...

Just got this email, its great that people want to help protect art the contributes to built environment.

Hi there,

We're contacting you to see if you've heard about Hackney Council's demand for the painting over of a beautiful piece of street art of a rabbit by ROA. The painting is on a wall at The Premises Studios in Hackney Rd, London E2; the wall is owned by us but they have sent a legal notice demanding we paint over it, describing it as " a blight on the local environment and detrimental to the amenity of the area" Quite clearly it is not and we are protesting very strongly. There's been a Twitter campaign #savetherabbit which trended this week for several hours showing there is enormous love for this famous piece of street art and also real anger at Hackney Council's ridiculous policy of painting over all graffiti regardless of merit. We're now not just challenging their actions regarding this artwork but their whole policy, Hackney is famous for its street art and yet its own Council seem determined to undermine this part of Hackney's vibrant identity.

Can you help us? I've attached a picture and we've set up a blog here http://www.premisesstudios.com/?page_id=698&preview=true with press and all our correspondence with Hackney Council. On Monday we are going to issue them with a formal challenge to review their policy at their next council meeting due to the incredible level of support we've had on a petition here http://www.petitiononline.com/PremROA/petition.html so if you could help spread the word it would be amazing.

Thanks in advance,

The Premises Studios
