It's a sign..
Patrick Thomas' striking artworks are charged with the power of the icon, ingeniously demonstrated in one of the artist's small series of screen-printed 'Protest Stencils', available at the Nelly Duff gallery.
Here, Thomas subverts the image of social revolutionary Che Guevara; composed entirely out of a carefully selected array of graphics which dominate modern capitalist culture, and indeed the picture surface. The juxtaposition of signs & symbols challenges the viewer to reconsider long established icons such as that of Guevara, alongside those now embedded in modern society..
