Shepard Fairey settles with AP...

...I wonder what that will mean for some of shep's other artworks that have been taken from photographs. Intellectual property has always been a grey area - because not all artists have the time or resourses to follow through with such matters to court i guess, but AP knew they had an amazingly high profile case. Good on Shep that he has setteled and Its good that the photographer will benefit from the sales aswell, i hope it will encourage collaborations between more artists and photographers in the future, read about on the bbc website

Shepard Fairey at Deitch Projects - final show

Shepard Fairy opens his 'May Day' solo show at Deitch Projects in New York on May 1st. The gallery has worked with some of the pioneers of street art from the beginning, most notably Keith Harring, Barry Mcghee, Swoon & Os Geomos to name a few. Jeffrey Deitch is the man behind the gallery and is taking up the role of the head of the Museum of Modern Art in the US. Thats seems like its good for good for street art and other street pioneering artists. Surely only a matter of time before banksy does a show there...

The US National Portrait Gallery buys Shepard Fairey...

...as part of its permanent collection.  The Portrait Gallery usually purchases a portrait of the president when they leave office, but this is an exception with Obama as they are going to hang it on his inauguration on the 20th Jan.  Moves like this accelerate the value of an artists work significantly...

"I'm gonna Kick your Ass...

...and get away with it" says Shepard Fairey.  Just in - is this lovely hand collage'd original.  The base of this artwork is made from things like his spray can receipts, personal cheques and other recycled detritus from  his life.  The hundreds of different pieces of paper have also been printed with numerous optical patterns and stencils across them and then seem to be sealed with a heavy rubber glue to form base for the large multi colour screen print to go over the top...  It a beauty ;  )
